English : Biotic potential of the cotton leafworm. Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) (Lepidoptera : Noctuidae) on five host plants
Arabic : الاقتدار الحيوي لدودة ورق القطن المرباه على عوائل مختلفة
Abstract Relationship between five host plants (cotton, Egyptian alfalfa, fenugreek, castor bean, and dodo¬naea) and development rate, age-specific survival, and agespecific fecundity for the cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) for two successive generations, were studied. Results show the impor¬tant role of host plants on the duration of larvae and pupae in addition to the longevity and fecun¬dity of adults. In both generations, host plants could be arranged according to their suitability for insect development in the following descending order: castor bean, cotton, alfalfa, fenugreek and dodonaea. Mortality analysis was carried out using the indices of apparent mortality, real mortality, indispensable mortality and the mortality-survivor ratio. This analysis revealed that the larval sta¬ges suffered greatest mortality followed by the pupal stage and lastly the eggs.
