English : Improvement of the control tactics of the black cutworm, Agrotis ipsilon (Hufn.) in Egypt
Abstract Field trials were conducted in microplots at Kaha, Qualiobia governorate in 1991. Several bait carriers , bait placements and insecticides were evaluated in controlling the black cutworm, Agrotis ipsilon (Hufn.). The tested insecticides were applied as baits and sprays against cutworm larvae (5th instar). Seedlings of broad bean,Vicia faba L., were artificially infested. Damage was assessed for the different treatments. The results obtained showed that baits were comparatively more effective as mixed. with molasses. Significantly, less damage was recorded when baits were placed in vicinity of plant rather than far of it. Baits formulated with molasses in base of dried bread, corn flour, wheat bran and also corn flour without molasses gave high control percent. All insecticides formulated as baits were as effective as sprays. Hostathion H 40% , Azodrin 40% and Cyanox 50% were the most effective insecticides. In regard to the reliable and advisable effects for cutworms control the baits mixed with molasses were considered safer as safety control tactics with no harm effect on either the benefit biological control agents or agroecosystem components
