Relation between crop rotation regime and certain insect pests infestation at Qena Governorate

Abstract |
The black cutworm, lesser cotton leafworm, and mole-cricket are considered of the major pests in Qena Governorate (Upper Egypt) causing severe damage for crops. The present work had been done to clarify the relationship between domi¬nant crop rotation regimes in Qena and the infestation rates of these pests. Data prove that, black cutworm has a wide range of hostplants. The degrees of infesta¬tion were affected by planting season more than the plant cultivars. Number of S. exigua larvae infested field crops varied according to the crop type and the period of growing. Planting maize after onion in rotation will save it of infestation as on¬ion had not been attacked by lesser cotton leafworm., inspite of its activity during onion growing period. The attractiveness of the growing crop, determined the rate of mole-cricket infestation. Maize after a bean crop, is likely to receive a higher mole-cricket infestation than if followed onion
