English : Seasonal abundance of Gryllotalpa africana adults and efficacy of pitfall traps in reducing its population in qena governorate
Arabic : الوفرة الموسمية لأعداد الحفار الأفريقي وكفاءة المصائد الأرضية كوسيلة لخفض تعداده بمحافظة قنا
Abstract Mole-cricket, Gryllotalpa africana had two main periods of abundance yearly. The first, relatively low populations, extended between March and May, while the second extended from June to December. The latter period represents the bulk of the annual population and main period of activity of this insect pest. The efficacy of trapping (catch/trap/day) increased by the increase of traps number per feddan. In second half of March, the average No. of trapped insects/trap/day recorded 1.3, 1.9 and 3.1 insects when 10, 15 and 20 traps/fed were used, respectively. Accord¬ingly, twenty traps/feddan was the most effective number for controlling mole¬cricket without using any polluting material on pepper.
