Abstract The objective of this study was carried out to investigate the contact toxicity of two formulations of Spinosad and two formulations of Bacillus thuringiensis against three stored product insects during storage. A laboratory study was conducted to determine the insecticidal efficiency of the two formulations of Spinosad (Tracer 24 % SC and Spontor 25% WP against three insects; Sitophilus oryzae, Sitophilus granarius and Rhizopertha dominica after 7 days and 14 days at LC50 and LC95. Results revealed that Spontor 25% WP was more toxic than Tracer 24% SC after 7 and 14 days from treatment on S. oryzae and R.. dominica. While tracer was more toxic than Spontor at LC50 and LC95 after 7 and 14 days on S. granarius. Results also showed that S. oryzae adult was highly susceptible to Spontor, followed by S. granarius and R .dominica at 7 days of treatment. While after 14 days, S. granariu.s was more susceptible than S. oryzae followed by R. donainica respectively. Concerning Tracer; S. granarius adults were more susceptible than S. oryzae followed by R .donainica at 7 and 14 days. These results suggest that the two formulations of Spinosad are potential grain protectants against S. oryzae, S. granarius and R .dominica 7 and 14 days from treatment. The insecticidal effect of the two formulations of Bio-insecticides (Ecotech-Bio, 10 % EC and Dipel 2X, 6.4 % WP) against Sitophilus oryzae, S.granarius and R. dominica adults after 7 and 14 days at two concentrations LC50 and LC95 revealed that Ecotech-Bio was more toxic than Dipel 2X. Results indicated that R. dominica adults at LC50 and LC95 were highly susceptible to Ecotech-Bio, 10 % followed by S.granarius and S.oryzae at 7 and }4 days. Concerning Dipel-2X (6.4 % WP), the results showed that the two formulations of BT have excellent contact activity against adults of stored product insects S. oryzae, S.granarius and R .dominica and has potential for use as a general surface spray to control insects in stored wheat. For residual studies, the wheat grains were treated with Spinosad (Tracer, 24% SC), Bacillus thuringiensis (Ecotech-Bio, 10 % EC) and exposed to S. oryzae, S.granarius and R.dominica after various periods of storage (l, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, and 90 days.) post-treatment. The results indicated that at one day post-treatment, Tracer increases mortality percentage and caused a high significant reduction in the oviposition rate and adult emerged comparing with control. While, Ecotech-Bio had less effect and less stable. Mortality percentage, oviposition rate and F1 progeny decreased after.90 days for each tested insect in comparison with that of the control. The results demonstrated that surface treatment of wheat grain with tested compounds had no effect on geminative potential of wheat grain compared with the control. Water absorption did not also differ significantly in tested compound treatment or control seeds.
