Abstract |
The efficiency of different extracts of Prosopis juliflora seed was studied against Sitophilus granarius L. adults using the treated wheat grains technique. The LCso and LC.9S values were (1.9 & 10.29), (3.4 & 9.8) and (2.3 & 10.4) ml/kg for petroleum-ether, chloroform and acetone extracts, respectively.
All extracts at high doses caused high levels of mortality after 3 days of exposure and gave complete mortality (100%) after 5 days of exposure. This effect was continued up to 21 days of storage after which it was decreased but with different levels (90 to 98%).
The LC50 values of the three extracts caused high reduction in the average no. of eggs laid and the number of emerged progeny, no offspring was produced with LC95 level.
All the tested extracts gave a slight reduction in the percent of germination (9.3 to 15) and did not affect the water absorption of wheat grains.
The use of tested extracts at the LC50, LC95 levels, reduced the loss in weight of wheat grains after 36 days from the treatment comparing with control.
The three extracts at their LC50 levels caused a significant decrease in the protein and carbohydrate contents of S, granarius adult, and resulted in a significant increase in its lipid content. The results appear that all extracts, caused a reduction in activity of acetyl cholinesterase, GOT and GPT.
