Abstract |
The red scale insect, Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell) (Homoptera: Diaspididae), is recorded as a dangerous pest all over Egypt. During the present work,9 species of predators were collected from samples of A. aurantii. The most important predator species are Chilocorus bipustulatus L:, Scymnus syriacus Muls and Pharoscymnus various Kirsch. Abundance of A. aurantii predators were evaluated in four locations in Egypt, representing various bioclimatic regions during two successive years 2004¬2005. In Beni-Suef Govemorate which is characterized by suitable conditions for predators of the red scale, A. aurantii, the average numbers of C. bipustulatus was 40 and 55 individualsl /50 citrus leaves during the first and second years, respectively. Maximum numbers reached 76 and 88 individuals/ 50 citrus leaves during, September 2004-2005, respectively.
