Abstract Two field experiments were conducted during the two successive summer seasons, 2003 and 2004 at Tag El-Ezz Agriculture Research Station, Dakahlia Governorate, to study the effect of preceding winter crops, i.e faba bean and wheat, farm yard manure (FYM) and foliar nutrition of stimophol on growth, yield and yield components of Rice (Sakha 104 variety). Four application rates of farmyard manure, i.e. 0 (without organic fertilizer), 10, 20 and 30 m3 / fed were applied and three levels of Astimophol as foliar application, i.e. 200, 300 and 400 gm / fed. were applied. Results could be summarized in the following:- Available N, P and K contents as well as organic matter content in the soil surface (0 – 30 cm) were higher after harvesting of faba bean crop than those obtained after wheat crop. Moreover, the highest values were obtained in the plots treated with 30 m3 FYM and 400 mg / fed. stimophol compared with the control treatment. Soil pH was slightly decreased with increasing the application rates of FYM. Preceding winter crops had significant effects on panicle length (cm), number of grains/panicle, grains weight/panicle (gm) and grain yield (ton / fed) of rice in both seasons. Cultivating of rice after faba bean gave higher yield and its components than those obtained after wheat crop. Application of FYM up to 30 m3/ fed. had significant increases in all the studied traits of rice crop in both seasons. Foliar application up to 400 gm/fed. had significant increases in plant height, flag leaf area, panicle length, number of grains/panicle, grains weight/ panicle, 1000-grains weight and grain yield/fed. in both seasons. The interaction of the effect between preceding crops and rates of FYM were significant on panicle length, grain weight/panicle and grain yield / fed. in both seasons. Generally, it could be concluded that, cultivation of rice after faba bean with the application of FYM (20 or 30 m3 /fed.) and foliar application with stimophol (400 g / fed.) gave the highest values of grains yield and its attributes
