Abstract |
The main objectives of this research were to:
1-Identify knowledge needs of the agricultural extension workers concerning of pest control of sugar beat crop.
2-Determine the degree of knowledge need of the agricultural Extension workers with symptoms of insect, and diseases infestation sugar beat crop.
3-Identify the variables affected the degrees of respondents
knowledge, relating insect control and diseases control of sugar beat crop.
4-Identify the variables affected respondents' knowledge needs
Data were collected during March 2006 by personal interviews using a questionnaire from random sample amounted to 170 respondents representing 50% of the total numbers of the agricultural extension workers in three districts ,i.e.,: Sedy Salem ,EI Sheikh Governorate . Arithmetic mean, parson's simple correlation coefficient, Regression and multiple correlations (step -wise) were used to analyze data statistically, in addition to percentages and frequencies.
The most important results could be summarized as follows
1-The knowledge need level of 34.1% of respondents were low with symptoms of insect and disease infestation of sugar beat crop, this level was moderate for
51.8%of respondents, while 14.1%of respondents had high level.
2- There is a negative and significant correlation relationship between the degree of knowledge need with symptoms of insect and diseases infestation of sugar beat crop, and the following independent variables: degree of training in the field of pest control of sugar beat crop, degree of exposure to information sources in the field of pest control of sugar beat crop, degree of job satisfaction, degree of achievement motivation and degree of innovativeness
3-The independent variables together explained 45.2% of variance in the degree of knowledge need of respondents with symptoms of insect and diseases infestation of sugar beat crop,
4- There are three independent variables together explained 44.8% of variance in the degree of knowledge need of respondents with symptoms of insect and diseases infestation in sugar beat crop, they could be ranked as follows: degree of exposure to information sources in the field of pest control of sugar beat crop (40%), number of working years in agricultural sector (3.4%) and degree of job satisfaction (1.4%),
5-The knowledge need level of 35.3% of respondents was low with methods of insects and diseases control of sugar beat crop, this level was moderate for 51.8% of respondents and 12.9% were high degree.
6-There is a negative and significant correlation relationship between the knowledge need degrees of methods of pest and diseases control of sugar beat crop, and the following independent variables: number of working years in extension, degree of training in the field of pest control of sugar beat crop, degree of exposure to information sources in the field of pest control of sugar beat crop, degree of job satisfaction, degree of achievement motivation and degree of innovativeness.
7-The independent variables together explained 51% of variance in knowledge need degree of respondents with methods of pest and diseases control of sugar beat crop.
8-There are three independent variables together explained 49.4%of variance in the degree of knowledge need of respondents with methods of pest and diseases control of sugar beat crop, they could be ranked as follows: degree of exposure to information sources in the field of pest - control in sugar beat crop (41%),degree of achievement motivation (6.8%) and degree of innovativeness (1.6%).
