Abstract |
Microterys flavus (Howard) (Encyrtidae: Hymenoptera) is one of the most important parasitoids attacking some soft scale insects in Egypt.Surveys conducted during 2002- 2004 in 25 governorates of Egypt
showed that M. flavus was associated with eight species of soft scale insects. The result showed that this paraitoid recorded for the first time in Egypy attcaking, Kilifa acuminata (Signoret), Pulvinaria f1'occifera (Westwood), Pulvinaria mesembryanthemi (Vallot) and P. tenuivalvata (Newstead). Population abundance of M. flavus were carried out during two seasons from Oct., 2002 to Oct., 2004 in seven locations in Egypt, being Beheira, Gharbiya, Giza, North Sinai ( El-Arish), Qalyubiya, Qena and Sharqiya Governorates. The highest level of parasitism attained with Ceroplastes floridensis Comstock and Saissetia oleae. (Oliver) Were found to be 35.4% and 32.4%, respectively in Behira and El-Arish. Genewrally the result indicated that M. flavus the effective parasitoid attacking some soft scale insects in Egypt.
