Abstract Bacteriological examination of percutaneous tracheal aspiration of 65 foals suffer from lower respiratory tract disease (nasal discharge, cough pneumonia) revealed the isolation of streptoococcus equi sub sp. zooepidemicus, streptococcus pneumoniae the in vitro antibiotic sensitivity test revealed that the most effective antibiotics were gentamicin and enrofloxacin and tobramycin for s. aureus the results demonstrated that the 15--to 16- KDa antigens are present in epidemiologially important strains , making them potentially useful as virulence markers.
