Abstract |
The current study included 100 children suffering from suppurative otitis media ( ASOM) and 50 cases of chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM). Their ages below 12.years .
The aim of this was to assess the most common (bacterial and fungal agents) of suppurative otitis media (OSAM and CSOM). As well as to show its recurrence alter one month from the 1ST episode to find out if it is a relapse or reinfection. Another was the efficacy of honey at different concentrations as an antibacterial and antifungal agents on the isolated pathogens in vitro.
Staphylococcus aureus was the most frequent isolated organism, as it was detected from 42% of cases with (ASOM) and 36% of cases (CSOM) followed by H. influenza. 26.0% (ASOM) and 20.0% in (CSOM).
fungi were detected more frequently in CSOM (20.0%) compared to 8% in ASOM Candida alb. Was the most frequent isolated fungi; in (CSOM) 12.0% and ( ASOM)6.0%.
On the other hand it was found that among 50 treated children ASOM, 16 cases early recurrence of infection either with the same type of the organism as shown by the antibiogram (Relapse) or with different pathogens other than those isolated at the initial episode (Reinfection).
Regarding Honey: it was found that; aerobic bacteria were more sensitive (at low honey dilution) than anaerobic ones, as well as it showed antifungal effect.
The isolated microbial pathogen from all studied cases were thoroughly investigated with the aim to stud} the most commonly causative agents (bacterial and fungl) of " supporative otitis media (ASOm and CSOM beside to spot lightning prevalence of their recurrence to found out if it is a relapse or reinfection with reference to the efficacy of honey as antimicrobial and antifungal agents on the isolated pathogen in vitro.
