Farmers educational requirements in production and marketing of Onion crop at Tanta and Basion districts in El-Gharbia governorate

Abstract |
Onion is one of the most important economical crops in Egypt. This study aims to determinate the educational requirements of respondents in production and marketing of onion crop at Tanta and Basion Districts, El-Gharbia Governorate. The study depended on the questionnaire with the personal meeting with the fulfillment of data. Study data were collected from systematic random sample amounted 308 respondents. The study included two group: a higher productivity respondents have 174 respondents (Mehalet Menouf and Kom El-Nagar villages) and a lower productivity respondents have 134 respondents (Konaiset Damshit and Kotama villages).
The main results of this study were as follows:
1. About 82 and 87 % were found in moderate and high level of educational requirements of higher and lower productivity respondents, respectively.
2. The availability of the instructional services offered to the respondents in the production and the marketing of the onions crop is considered a lower depression concerning nine services as follow: the distribution of the agricultural guidance magazine, the distribution of the instructional bulletins, providing the radio agricultural programs, the establishment of the instructional fields, holding the instructional meetings, an establishment the field days, a residence the harvest days, holding the field seminars, training the local leaders.
3. The most important problems that face respondents in the production and the marketing of the onions crop : the non the presence of areas enough for holding my operation is Al Tasmit and disgraces, the non presence of a good network from the paved ways, the decrease of the onions price, the rise of the labor forces wages, the rise of necessary prices, the rise of the productions requirements prices, the inability of the marketing information about the onions crop, the inability of the instructional efforts in the stages of the marketing of the onions crop.
Therefore, it be concluded that the supply of farmers is advised on the intensification of the instructional efforts by all agricultural information about a production and the marketing of the crop. The facing of problems and obstacles that they face respondents in the production and the marketing of the onions crop, and also the increase of the instructional services giver to them and consequently a response died.
