English : Nutritional Status oe Pre-School Children Aged (4-6 years) in Fayoum Governorate

Abstract The study aims at identifying the nutritional status of pre-school age children aged 4-6 years old. A random sample amounted to 191 of rural women and their children (100 male and 91 female) were selected from two villages of Fayoum governorate. Data were collected by personal interviews using a pre-tested questionnaire. Anthropometric measurements including height and weight, 24-hour recall, some clinical signs associated with nutritional deficiency and nutritional practices were used. Simple Correlation Coefficient, standard deviation, means, percentages, and frequencies were used for data analysis. The most important results included the Following: 1- 41.9% of the pre-school children, their ratio between height for age were less than 90% of reference FAO, 1990. 2- 53% of the pre-school children, their ratio between weight for height for sex were more than 100% of reference FAO, 1990. 3- More than 50% of the pre-school children mothers had moderate nutritional practices. 4- 12% of the pre-school children had bad clinical signs. 5- Most of the pre-school children get their RDA of protein, vitamin A and vitamin Bl. 6- Most of them did not get their RDA of energy, vitamin C, calcium, iron and zinc. 7- A significant positive relationship at 0.01 was found between the nutritional practices and each of mother & father education, and family income. 8- A significant positive relationship at 0.01 was found between protein, and zinc intake and die child height. Due to the research findings 6 recommendation were deducted.
