English : Infestation evaluation of sugarcane (c9/54 variety) with chilo Agamemnon Blesz and mealy- bug Saccharicoccus sacchari cockerell at four governorate in Upper Egypt

Abstract Sugarcane is one of the most important sugar crops in Egypt. This crop is attacked by the purple lined borer (PLB)of sugarcane Chido agamemnon Bles.(=Chilo semplex) (Lepedoptera: Grambidae) and mealy-bug Saccharicoccus sacchariC. (Homoptera :Pseudococcidae)in most fields, which causes serious damage. The commercial variety C9/54 were evaluated in four governarates of Upper Egypt, Minia, Sohage, Quena and Aswan in the period between 12 to 27 February 2005 during harvest period in order to estimate the rate of infestation in all locations by two pests. The overall infestation of C agamemnon was calculated according to percentages of bored joints, girdled, dead-top, and feeding and moth exit holes. Obtained results indicate that total number of brod joints and its percentages were lower200 infested joints in Minia with 8.83% and higher in Aswan with 728 infested ;olnt_c with I3,51~~ and d moderate p.P.rC.°.nfw'g.°.S ^f iiasiaiivn iii Sohage with 376.1 infested joints and 10.16% infestation while 260.6 infested joints by 10.90% infestation in Quena governorate. According to dead- top infestation for 120 plants we found a high percentage infestation was in Aswan by 15.82% with mean 3.16, low percentage infestation was in Minia by 7.92% with mean 1.66, moderate percentage infestation were in Sohage by 11.34% with mean 2.33 and in Quena was 12.6% with mean 2.50. The infestation of mealy-bug was recorded in highest number in Minia region with 14 individuals/ 120 plants with mean 2.33 and 11.67% infestation, the lowest number in Quena with 8 individuals! 120 plants with mean 1.33 and 6.67% infestation while Aswan was received 9 indv./ 120 plants with mean 1.50 and 7.50% infestation, but Sohage was received 11 indiv./ 120 plants with mean 1.83 and 9.13% infestation.
