Extension knowledge needs for rural mothers related to the nutrition from born until three years old children in El-Qunaysa village – el – Giza governorate

Abstract

This study was carried out to identify the knowledge needs level for the rural mothers from born until 3 years old children. A random sample of 170 rural mothers was chosen from El-Qonyassa village, (80) mothers have one child from born to less than one year, and (53) mothers have a child less than tow years old, and (37) mothers have a child (2-3) years old. Data were collected by personal interviews using a pre–tested questionnaire. Frequencies and percentages were used to describe and present data. Study results revealed that: - The knowledge needs of rural mothers which have children from born – until less than one year were high related to Koshary, Taamia, Eggs, El Karish cheese in addition to some additives to increase their nutritional value, And the effects of some additive materials to suits, and junk. - The knowledge needs of the rural mothers having child from one year to less than two years, were high related to the right practices of Weaning, Lemtil, Busara, El-Karish cheese in addition to some additives to increase their nutritional value, and the bad effects of some additives materials to junk food. - The knowledge needs of the rural mothers who have children from 2-3 years were high related to their preparing balanced diet and the nutritional value of food elements, the bad effect of the additive materials of junk foods and their awareness of the importance of the breakfast meal. - Some extension programs were suggested in respect of the actual level of the knowledge extension needs to the rural mothers in the study area to raise their awareness regarding the extension messages included in the educational objectives through applying a chance for women training and the availability of the extension methods and extension aids
