Arabic : بعض الأشجار والشجيرات البقولية كمصدر لغذاء الحيوان في الساحل الشمالي لمصر .
Abstract For plants ( Tipuana tipu, Bauhinia variegata, Acacia saligna and Leucaena leucocephala ) were grown under desert condition and irrigated by wastewater. The green trees leaves were cut four times in dry season and fed with barley grains to saffolk sheep at the rate of 1:1 Metabolism trials were undertaken to determine the feeding values, N,Fe,Zn,Pb and Cd balances, daily intakes and growth rates of growing Saffolk lambs. Results showed significant differences (P,0.05) in all nutrients among the testes plants. Leucocephala had high nutritive values being 78.42% TDN and 16.49% DCP, therefore, DM and feed units intakes by sheep could fulfill their maintenance requirements from energy and protein with surplus for production. Positive nitrogen and mineral balances for all sheep were showed, except that fed diet of Leucaena, which was negative CD balance ( -2.5 mg /mg /h /d ). The stocking rate ( head /feddan), along 180 day of dry season, was affected by tree leaves yield and daily DM intake of sheep. The highest DM yield ( 3.84 ton DM / feddan ) and stocking rate ( 55 head / feddan) were recorded by Tipuana and the lowest corresponding values were 980 kg DM / feddan and 6 head / feddan for Leucaena. The average daily gain ( 127-245 g / h / d) and feed efficiency (2.4-3.9) were the highest for Leucaena and lowest for Bauhinia with significant differences among groups. Generally, leguminous shrubs or trees are god fodder source. So, Leucaena, Tipuana and Acacia can be use as fodder plants in the new desert reclaimed land to fill the gab of shortage of some green forage and to improve productivity in the North Coast of Egypt. Keywords: legumes, digestibility, nutritional balances, gain, stocking rate, feed efficiency.
