Abstract It is important to present enough information of buffalo prenatal development as a basis for studying factors causing deviation from normal development. Therefore, this study was undertaken to obtain a reference data in prenatal characteristics of the components of buffalo conceptus, in addition to the related biometrical changes in the genitalia of gravid buffalo female. Genitalia of fourty-five pregnant females were collected from local abbatoir, transferred to the lab, and processed by separation of the fetus, fetal fluids, fetal membranes and gravid genital system. Expected gestational age was determined based on crown- rump length. We found that the change in diameter rather than the length of the uterine horns and uterine body are more influenced by fetal age. The influence of fetal age on other measurements of the gravid genitalia was little to moderate. Investigation of the cotyledonary measurements revealed that weight and volume of cotyledons were strongly influenced by age of the fetus compared to the number of cotyledons, In addation to the largest and smallest diameter in the cotyledons. Additionally, strong effect of the gestational age was pronounced on the weight of fetus, weight of fetal genitalia and weight of the umbilical cord. The fetal age also exerted a high influence on fetal fluids and membranes. The data obtained herein could be used as a good base for diagnosis of pregnancy using ultrasonography. Key words: Pregnancy, fetal components, genitalia, fetal age.
