| Abstract |
The major aim of the current research is to evaluate the structure of agriculture extension system at Kafr EI-Sheikh and Gharbya Governorates. This evaluation is sought by identifying type and volume of extension work, sufficiently of workers and degree of their qualification at extension work, degree of application of targets of agriculture extension, degree of system adaptation of agriculture extension philosophies and principles, degree of appropriateness of organizational structure to social, economic, and political conditions, and the nature of relationship between different levels of local extension system, administrative communication methods between different levels of extension system, and finally suggestions of respondent related to development of local agriculture extension system.
research was carried out at Kafr El-Sheikh and Gharbyha Governorates. Random sample (n = 89) was selected representing 25% of all supervisors, specialists, and agents of agriculture extension. Data were collected by personal interviews and a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using numerical and frequency tables and percentage.
Major results:
Results showed that 91.01% of subjects reported that work in rural development department tends to be of training type, 90% of subjects reported that work is difficult at corps section. 878% of subjects reported that the work load at animal production section is high, while 93% reported that the number of workers is insufficient at animal production section. 91% of subjects reported that workers at the extension system are qualified to work at corps section. 58% of subjects reported that degree of application of agriculture extension objectives is high 74% of subjects reported that adaptation of agriculture extension philosophies and principles is high. 55.06, 76.40, 53.935 of subjects reported that the organizational structure of agriculture extension system is inappropriate to social, economic or political conditions respectively, while 3.93% of subjects reported its appropriateness to the general policy of the state. 54% of subjects reported that the relationship between Governorate and villages is formal. 96% of subjects reported that communication between workers at the department and center is done by phone. Results also showed that the followings are the most significant suggestions of subjects to develop extension system: increase salaries of workers at agriculture extension system, strengthening ties between agriculture extension and related institutions, and utilizing information technology.
