Abstract |
Two field experiments were carried out at Esmailia Agric. Res. Station, Egypt during the two successive seasons 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 to study the effect of NPK fertilizer levels (30-15-12), (45-15-24) and (60-30-24) on yield and its components in addition to estimate correlation coefficient between either straw yield or seed yield and their related characters for the three flax genotypes Giza 8 , S.24767/1 and Blinka.
Results obtained can be summarized as follow:
1-The flax variety Blanka ranked first and superior significantly on the two other genotypes Giza 8 and S.2467/1 in technical length, fiber yield/faddan, fiber length, fiber percentage and fiber fineness. Moreover, straw yield/faddan appeared to be insignificant differences between the three flax genotypes studied in both seasons.
There was gradual increment and significant in technical length, straw yield/plant as well as per faddan, fiber yield/faddan and fiber length with increasing NPK level towards the highest dose, while fiber percentage differed significantly in only the second season. On the other hand, fiber fineness was decreased with increasing NPK level in both seasons. Genotypes x fertilization interaction had significant effect on all straw characters except with stem diameter.
2-The flax variety Giza 8 achieved maximum mean values in seed index, seed and oil yields/faddan, oil percentage and iodine value when compared with S.2467/1 and Blanka which recorded lowest estimates in all seed characters under study in both seasons.
Increased NPK fertilizer level caused remarkable increments on all seed yield characters in the two seasons. Genotypes x fertilization interaction had significant effect on fruiting zone length, no. of capsules/plant, no. of seeds/capsule, seed yield/plant, seed index, oil yield/faddan and iodine value.
3-The correlation coefficients were significant and positive between either straw and each of technical length, stem diameter, fiber length, fiber percentage and fiber fineness or between seed yield and each of fruiting zone length, no. of capsules/plant, no. of seeds/capsule, seed index and oil percentage.
