English : Combined effect of farmyard manure and N-fertilizer on wheat production, NPK uptake and N-use efficiencies under highly calcareous soil conditions
Arabic : التأثير المتداخل للسماد النيتروجيني والسماد البلدي على امتصاص العناصر الكبري وكفاءة استخدام النتروجين وإنتاجية محصول القمح في الأراضي الجيرية
Abstract Two field experiments were conducted under highly calcareous soil conditions at Nubaria Agriculture Research Station during two successive seasons of 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 to study the response of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to combined effect of N-fertilizer levels (0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 kg N/fed), (fed = 4200 m2), under different rates of farmyard manure (FYM) (0, 5, 10 and 15 m3 fed-1) in a split plot design. A quadratic polynomial equation (QPE) was used to describe the response of grain (GY), straw (StY) and biological yields (BY) as well as N, P and K uptake by grain and whole plant. The obtained results indicated that, in both seasons increasing N-fertilizer levels resulted in significant increase in grain, straw and biological yield excepted for the differences between the highest two levels (90 and 120 kg N fed-1). Nitrogen use efficiencies (N use efficiency NUE, utilization efficiency NUtE, uptake efficiency NUpE, and grain N accumulation efficiency GNAE) decreased with increase N fertilization level while it was increased with increasing FYM application. Insignificant effects were obtained for the interaction of FYM and N-fertilizer levels. The maximum grain, straw and biological yields (18.9 Ardab fed -1 , 4.8 and 7.5 ton fed-1, respectively) were obtained from the combination of (15 m3 FYM and 90 kg N fed-1. The QPE appeared to be sensitive and capable to illustrate the response of wheat GY, StY and BY as well as N, P and K uptake to the applied N fertilizer under different FYM rates. The obtained values of R2 (>0.860) reflecting highly significant correlations at the 0.01 level over the two growing seasons. Generally under, this experiment conditions, the combined application of (15m3 FYM and 90 kg N) fed-1 is the best treatment. It results in maximum grain yield and uptake of N, P and by wheat plants and enhanced N-use efficiencies.
