Abstract This study was designed to determine the effect of partially or totally replacing of yellow corn at 0,50, 75 and 100 % with meals of either potato peel (PP), orange peel (OP), banana peel (BP), bakery by-product (Bbp) or Broken macaroni (BM) in five feeding experiments. The experimental diets contain nearly similar CP (30 %) and GE (4200 kcal/kg) and fed to Nile tilapia I fingerlings at 3 % of live body weight for a period of three months. Chemical analysis showed that, banana peels characterized by their highest ash (17.99 %) and accordingly the lowest content of organic matter and gross energy value being 72.33% and 3.649 kcal/g DM, respectively. On the other hand, potato peel, orange peel or banana peel contains higher crude fiber content compared to both bakery by-product and broken macaroni. Apparently, such observation could be a limiting factor for applying such wastes in fish diets. However, both the crude protein of the all tested wastes and their content of NFE are good indicators that such wastes could be used successfully in fish diets instead of yellow corn. The best results of live weight, total weight gain, feed conversion ratio, utilization of nutrients as well as carcass composition in addition to the digestibility coefficient of feed nutrients were obtained by fish received either potato peel or banana peel at 50 %; those fed either orange peel or bakery byproduct at 75 % and tilapia having broken macaroni at 100 % of yellow corn as an alternative sources of energy. These findings had been confirmed by the economical evaluation as they gave the optimum feed cost needed to obtain one kilogram of gain in fish weight. By comparison, orange peel was the best followed by bakery by-product, banana peel, broken macaroni and then by potato peel which is the worse one. However, all can be used safely in tilapia feeding instead of part of yellow corn as non- conventional sources of energy.
