A study on the efficiency of phosphorus fertilizers for wheat production grown in a sandy soil under the effect of erganic manure application

Abstract |
Field trials (2 seasons 2003/2004 and 2004/2005) were carried out in a sand soil under inoculation with a suspension of mycorrhizae spores. Randomized complete block design was used where two phosphorus sources (super-phosphate "SP" and rock-phosphate "RP"), two P-fertilizer rates (5 kg P fed-1 and 10 kg P fed-1) and two farmyards manure rates "FYM" (10 m3 fed-1and 15 m3 fed-1)
The obtained results showed that both P-sources gave considerable yield increase. RP was on average 15 %, 5 % and 15 % as efficient as SP in grain yield production, straw yield production and 1000 grains weight respectively. The RP was superior to the SP, only where the 5 kg P fed-1 rate was applied; giving 22% more grain yield over SP. Application of FYM to the soil caused increases in grain yield to 58 %, but the rate of 15 m3 fed-1 decreased it. Increasing of P-rates caused increases in grain yield, straw yield and 1000 grains weight.
RP and SP were equally affecting in increasing N-uptake by 78 % and 66 % "grains", 100 % and 92 % "straw" as compared with the un-treated, respectively. Increasing P-rates increased significantly N and K uptake in both grain and straw of wheat plant, P-uptake increased with increasing P-rate only in grain. Regarding P-uptake in grain, RP was superior to SP, using 10m3 fed-1 and this occurred also with 5 kg P fed-1. Regarding K-uptake in grain, RP was superior to SP, only where the 5 kg P fed-1 rate was applied. Application of FYM had a highly significant effect on P-uptake in grain. The highest average P-uptake (7.09 kg fed-1) was obtained with addition of 10 m3 fed-1, but the lowest average grain yields (5.30 kg fed-1) was obtained with the addition of 15 m3 fed-1.
RP and SP were equally effective in increasing grain protein yield of 78 % and 66 %, respectively, as compared with the un-treated ones. Grain protein yield increased with increasing P-rate.
Fertilizer use efficiency "PUE" and percent P-recovery "PR" differences between both sources of phosphorus were greater at lower than at higher P-rates for wheat plants. Increasing fertilizer use efficiency may be obtained by rock phosphate. FUE and PR means for (grain + straw) yield due to RP and SP are as follows in respective order: for RP 206 and 102 %. Comparable values for SP: 132 and 62 %, respectively
