Abstract Ten adult bulls, five of them naturally infected with B. bigemina were subjected to both clinical and blood film examination. The other five bulls were free and kept as control. The intramuscular adminstration of imidocarb dipropionate in a single therapeutic dose (2.5 mg/kg b. wt.) for cattle naturally infected with B. bigemina was conducted. The intensity of the parasitaemia was reduced within 24 hrs. and complete clearence was obtained within 3 days. The haemoglobinurea was cleared in 24 hrs. In naturally infected cattle, the drug induced a gradual decrease in rectal temperatures toward normal levels. The changes on the blood picture which was induced by babesiosis showed significant decrease in erythrocytic count, haemoglobin content and packed cell volume and showed significant increase in total leucocytic count which will be completely disappeared 10 days post- treatment with imidocarb dipropionate. The alterations in serum constituents in naturally infected cattle showed significant increase in serum AST activity, glucose, total bilirubin, creatinine, urea and uric acid levels. Also showed significant decrease in total proteins and cholesterol levels which will be completely subsided 10 days post- treatment. Due to the improvement in liver and kidney dysfunctions 10 days post- treatment in the present study, it could be concluded that imidocarb dipropionate is a potent babesicidal drug in infected cattle.
