English : Effect of aerobic pretreatment on anaerobic digestion of maize stalks
Arabic : تأثير المعاملة الهوايئة الأولية على التخمر اللاهوائى لأحطاب الذرة
Abstract Enhancement of anaerobic digestion of maize stalks mixed with cattle dung was achieved by applying aerobic pretreatment step for 10 days. By this method, methane content in the biogas produced increased rapidly to be over 50% at first week and up to 76.4% at the third week of the anaerobic digestion period. The methane yields for the pretreated and non-treated mixtures were 3.72 and 3.28 l/kg VS added /day, respectively. Digested material after biogas process applying pretreatment step showed a better quality as organic fertilizer, than that produced from non-treated mixture, in respect to C/N ratio and content of P K. Crop residues, such as straw, straw, stalks, ete. Are left on the fields to decay or be burnt. Consequently, the valuable energy convert through photosynthesis into organic matter is lost without full utilization in the agricultural energy cycle. These materials as well as animals dung can be used for biogas and organic manure using anaerobic fermentation process
