Abstract |
A laboratory experiment was conducted to assess the efficiency of two cyanobacteria strains (Anabaena flos aqua and Nostoc muscurum) to remove and or accumulate different concentrations of cadmium. Lead and nickel. From their growing culture media results results indicate that both cyanobacteria strains were able to accumulate significantly all tested heavy metals in their cells with different degrees as well. Cadmium was accumulated in the order of Nostsc < Anabaena at all tested concentration. While both lead and nickel were nearly accumulated in equal degrees. By both cyanobacteria at all initial concentration .however nickel was more toxic for both cyanobacteria strains that they had accumulated less amount of Ni than those of Cd and Pb. Despite of nickel inclusion with any concentration into cyanobacteria culture media had depleted the algae color, both Nostsc and Anabaena were able to grow and and accumulate the metals
