Abstract |
A total number of 60 does (30 V-line,VL and 30 Bauscat, B) rabbits aged 6-7 months, were used in this study. The study included two periods, the first was from April till September 2004 (hot conditions) and the second from October till March 2005 (mild conditions) in order to determine the biological performance of does as affected by breed, period of kindling and their interactions. Also, to investigate the fixed effects (breed, period of kindling and pregnancy stage) on some blood measurements and the correlation coefficients between some doe rabbit traits and some blood components.
The results showed that breed had significant (P<0.05 and 0.01) effect on litter size at birth and weaning, litter weight at birth and weaning, milk yield at the successive stages, pre-weaning mortality, progesterone (P4) concentrations, total protein (TP), globulin (Glb), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). The V-Line does showed significantly (P<0.05 and 0.01) the highest values of previous traits except No. of pre-weaning mortality and AST. Petter performance was observed in mild conditions than in hot conditions. The levels of TP, Alb and Glb reached their peak values at day 14 of gestation. The doe traits studied correlated significantly positive or negative with some blood hormones and components.
The reproductive performance and the blood components estimated in the present study verified the superiorly of the V-line breed under the hot conditions of climatic conditions of middle Egypt compared to the Bauscat rabbits.
