Abstract |
Communication plays a vital role in comprehensive development in general and rural development in specific. High illiteracy rates among farmers accompanied by low standard of living dictates using the most effective communication methods to increase farmers knowledge and information regarding technical recommendations of the new agricultural innovations.
A video-tape recording is one of the communication methods that have many communicational advantages. It is considered an audio/visual media that can present sound, picture and motion of a varied subject recorded on a magnetic tape.
The effectiveness, of video-tape recording depends on the sort of treatment for the message that carried on it. Although the importance of message treatment, it was noticed that only few studies about treatment of messages that carried on video-tape recording. Therefore, this study was about sorts of treatment for a message that carried on video-tape recording.
Objectives Of The Study:
1. Determining the educational effect of the visual speech treatment of extension message.
2. Determining the educational effect of the visual dialogue treatment of extension message.
3. Determining the educational effect of the visual discussion treatment of extension message.
4. Determining the difference between the educational effect of three studied treatments.
5. Determining the relationship between the educational effect of the visual speech and each of the following variables of the respondents: age, educational status, citrus-planted area, exposure to mass media and information sources.
6. Determining the relationship between the educational effect of the visual dialogue and each of the following variables of the respondents: age, educational status, citrus-planted exposure to mass media and information sources.
7. Determining the relationship between the educational effect of the visual discussion and each of the following variables of the respondents: age, educational status, citrus-planted area, exposure to mass media and information sources.
To fulfill the study objectives an experimental design was used. Three versions of video-tapes were prepared containing the same information about the balanced fertilizing of citrus in different treatments: visual speech, visual dialogue and visual discussion.
The study was conducted on a sample of 180 farmers cultivating citrus in Qualubiah and Sharkia governorates.
The sample was divided into three groups, each group watched one treatment from three treatments: visual speech, visual dialogue and visual discussion. The information of respondents about the balanced fertilizing citrus was tested before and after watching a treatment of video-tape recording.
Data were collected and tabulated and then analyzed using SPSS program. The statistical tools used were: frequencies, Standard Deviation, percentages, averages, F test, T test and simple correlation coefficient.
