English : Rural women's role in restoring the environmental balance and some factors affecting it in some villages of el Menia, El Beheira, and Giza governorates

Abstract The study aimed at determining the environmental activities which rural women participating in, to restore the environmental balance, determining the forms and degrees of these participation, as well as studying the relationship between rural women's degrees of participation and some independent variables. Finally the study aimed at determining the contribution of each related independent variables in explaining the variation in the degrees of rural women's participation in the activities of restoring the environmental balance. The study was done in three Governorates which were selected randomly from different geographic areas which were: El Menia, El Behira, and Giza. One village from each district of the three Governorates was also selected randomly. A sample of 270 respondents representing 8% of farming rural women were selected randomly from the investigated area. Data were collected during May-July 2001 by using pretested questionnaires. Numbers, frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviation, skewness, simple correction coefficient, and step-was test were used to present and analysis data statistically. The study revealed the following results : 1. There were 24 activities in connection with restoring the environmental balance which investigated rural women participating in. The participation of the investigated rural women were taken different limns which were doing efforts. providing finance. and presenting materials, 2. The rural women's participation ht doing efforts was come in the front of the other two forms of participation with percentages ranging between (44.94%) as a Maximum for the participation in the activity of cleaning the village through campaigns and (12.73%) as a Minimum lot. the participation in the activity of maintaining public buildings and service institutions. 3. The participation degrees of the Majority (72.28%) of the investigated rural women were low for the three forms of participation in the activities of restoring environmental balance, 4. There was a significant relationship at (0.01 level) between rural women's degree of participation in the activities of restoring the environmental balance and the three independent variables which were: The degrees of rural women's participation in the cooperative activities inside the village. the degrees oaf rural women's interests towards the health of the environment. the degrees of rural women's exposure to the environmental information resources. 5. There were two independent variables only among the three related ones explaining jointly (13.79%) of variation in the dependent variable. About (9.52%) of these variation was due to the degrees of rural. women's participation in the cooperative activities inside the village_ while (4.27%) was returned to the degrees of rural women's interests towards the health of the environment. 6. In the light of the previous results. The study recommends that Agricultural Extension work must be focused on establishing cooperative activities inside the villages especially in the environmental discipline. and encouraging rural people to participate in it. as well as increasing its environmental extension programmes directed to increase rural men and 'women knowledge and skills to he more rational in dealing and utilizing the environmental resources.
