English : Habits and traditions of rural women in related to preganacny, nursing, weaning and child raising in some villages in Alexandria and Behiera governorates

Abstract This reached aimed mainly to assess some customs and traditions of rural women related to pregnancy, nursing, weaning and child raising in some villages in Alexandria and Behira Governorates. The study was carried out through achieving two sub-goals; first of which was to recognize some prevalent habits and traditions related to pregnancy, nursing, weaning and child raising, and the second sub-goal was to recognize some attitudes of females subjects towards girls education and family planning and its centers. Data was collected through personal interview questionnaire land holder's random sample of farmers wives consisted of 300 women counting 75 females from the Ideal Village and Khorshid (Alexandria Governorate), and Gawad Hosny and El-Wastanya (El-Behira Governorate). Percentages, frequencies and averages were used in analyzing and presenting the data, Data indicated the following: Concerning the habits related to pregnancy period, among the wrong habits was doubling the quantity of foods, (37.7%) of the total sample. of the right habits was visiting the doctor or the health unit when the pregnant felt tired, (96.% of the sample). Regarding the wrong habits related to nursing period more than one the third of the sample tended to eat large quantities of sweets to increase milk (35.7% of the sample) and putting ink or a blue substance on the breast, (34.7% of the total sample). Among the right habits followed in child raising high percent of the sample used to take the sick child to the doctor or the health unit, (77.3% of the total sample). of the wrong habits was using medicine that was used before in curing sick children (12.3%) of the total sample. With respect to the participation of the daughter in family problems, it was found that (28% of the sample) in Gawad Hosny Village did not allow their daughters to express opinion in any problem that faces the family, however were (18.75%), (18.7%), and (13.3%) of the sample in EI-Wastanya, the Ideal Village and Khorshid respectively concerning subject attitudes, data indicated that (89%) of the total sample a good general level for girls education attitude and (78.9%) of the total sample was of demonstrated a good general level for the attitude towards family planning and its centers.
