Abstract The present study was designed to investigate the effect of using Azolla as one aquatic plants with or without some enzyme preparation (kemzyme) at different levels in the diets of Mandarah strain as local breed on growth performance during the growing period (10-18 weeks of age) and on egg production, egg quality and hatching results from 18 to 42 weeks of age. The chemical analysis of dried Azolla meal (DAM) used (on DM basis) are 70.38 OM, 21.90 CP, 3.01 EE, 13.78 CF, 31.69 NFE and 29.62 Ash. The digestibility coefficient of nutrients in DAM were 78.63,86.28, 84.75,27.41 and 86.37% for OM, CP, EE, CF and NFE, respectively. The feeding value of DAM for poultry were 18.89 DCP, 55.78 TDN and 2406 ME kcal/kg. Increasing DAM levels over 10% significantly (P<0.05) decreased live body weight, weight gain and feed conversion but increased feed consumption during. the growing period. During the laying period using more than 15% of DAM in Mandarah layer diets decreased egg production traits and some egg quality traits as well as some hatching results. Kemzyme supplementation at the level 0.5 g/kg feed in growing diets caused to improve insignificantly improved growth performance traits, while during the layer period egg production traits and feed conversion values improved by the addition of kemzyme preparation. Interaction results indicated that low DAM diets supplemented with 1.0 g/kg kemzyme showed the heavier live body weight, weight gain and the best feed conversion during the growing period. Diet contained 10% DAM with 0.5% KP increased egg production traits and improved some egg quality traits during the laying period. Increasing dietary DAM in laying diets to 20% decreased significantly the digestibility coefficient of DM, CP and CF. The digestibility of EE improved insignificant while, that of NFE and OM improved significantly as dietary Azolla increased.
