Effect of breed, season and type of insemination on reproductive performance of rabbit does

| Abstract |
A total number of one hundred and sixty four sexually mature Rex, Flander, Californian and New-Zealand White rabbits of nine months age (36 multiparous does and 5 bucks of each breed) were used in this work. A comparison among natural mating and usual artificial insemination or artificial insemination followed by rabbit semen gel infusion into uterus was conducted, during winter and summer seasons.
Reproductive performances as (kindling rate and litter size and weight at birth) of rabbit does within each breed were studied for three sequence parities, during winter and summer seasons. Rabbit does were classified into three comparable experimental groups. The rabbit does in the 1st ; 2nd ; and 3rd groups were mated naturally, inseminated artificially by using diluted semen only and by diluted semen followed by 0.25 ml rabbit semen gel infusion into the uterus, respectively.
The results obtained ftom this study indicated that, fertility traits of rabbit does as recorded in winter were significantly (P<0.05) better than in summer season in the four studied rabbit breeds. Inseminating rabbit does artificially by using diluted semen only or diluted semen followed by rabbit semen gel increased significantly (P<0.05) kindling rate and litter size and weight at birth in all breeds used in this study, during winter and summer seasons. The highest values of kindling rate and litter size and weight at birth (P<0.05) were recorded due to using rabbit semen gel in artificial insemination. The best values of fertility traits of rabbit does were arranged descending (P<0.05) as obtained by Rex, Flander, Californian then New-Zealand White rabbits, respectively.
