English : The effect of extension training program on utilizing non - traditional fodder in feeding cattle as viewed by female beneficiaries of integrated soil and water improvement project

Abstract This study aims to determine the effect of extension training program for utilizing non-traditional fodder on the knowledge and implementation level of the projects beneficiaries as well as its effect on the production and feeding cost rites of their cattle. identify call le feeding problems before and after the beneficiaries use of non-traditional fodder, determine the motivative reasons of using beneficiaries to this fodder, and their roles in transferring information about it, identify the effects of some personal, economical and family variables on the knowledge and implementation level of the beneficiaries. data were collected by personal interview with pretested questionnaire from 83 respondents representing, all the beneficiaries who were involved in non-traditional fodder extension program which was carried out by the project during the two years 91 &92 . frequencies, percentages, ranks and simple, correlation were used in presenting and analyzing the data . the results of this study showed that: the changes in the knowledge level for the majority of beneficiaries concern the amount, methods of preparing and using non-traditional fodder was high, while the changes in the implementation level was moderate. respondents stated that : A- positive effects were obtained on milk, meat and cream production as well as feeding costs of the beneficiaries' cattle as a result of using non-tradional fodder . B - there was 8 matte problems faring the beneficiaries in feeding their cattle before using non- tradional fodder. the most important problems were: the high prices of concentrated fodder, lack of cash money variable with the beneficiaries to buy this fodder, and shortage in concentrations in markets especially in summer. C- after using non - traditional fodder, the most important problems were: losing the animal its appetite at the begining of feeding on non - traditional fodder, the animal did not eat the recommended amount of non - traditional fodder. the attra¬ction of the fodder to the flies; because it contains the vinass. D- there were ten reasons motivated beneficiaries to use non-traditional fodder, the most important reasons were: the high prices of prepared concentrated fodder. the desire of beneficiaries to have high amount of production from their cattle, the reduction in the preparing cost of non - traditional fodder, and the easiness of preparing it. the study revealed that the majority of beneficiaries transfered informations about non - traditional fodder to other people, and more than half of then; contacted with number of people reach to 10 persons . • concerning the effect of the studied variables on the changes of knowledge and implementation level of the beneficiaries, the study showed that the educational level of the family was responsible for 8.76% of the changes in knowledge level, the educational level of the beneficiarie was responsible for 2,66 %, while there was no effect of age and holding size of cattle on these changes . • concerning the changes in the implementation level of beneficiaries the study showed that the educational level of the family was responsible for 8.60% its change, while the other variables were responsible for trifle changes . finely the study recommended the necessity of working towards diss¬emination of using non- traditional fodder especially in arras of cultivating crops of agricultural residuals, and areas of raising cattle because of the positive effects of non- traditional fodder upon the production rate and feeding costs.
