Farmers knowledge and implementation level of dairy cattle's breeding and management practices in El-Monofia governorate

Abstract |
This study aims to determine farmers knowledge and implementation of dairy cattle's breeding and Management Practices in E l-Monofia Governorate, and their relation to some
independent variables. Also to determine the contribution percentage of the independent variables correlated significantly to both farmers knowledge and implementation practices of dairy cattle's breeding and Management,. and to determine the sources providing the respondents with information regarding dairy cattle's breeding and Management practices. Finally it aims to determine the problems facing the respondents in EI-Monofia Governorate.
Data were collected by interviewing respondents using a pretested questionnaire during May and June 2000.
A random sample of 225 respondents was drawn from the nine districts in El-Monofia Governorate.
The collected data were statistically analyzed using tables, Percentages, averages, standard deviation, frequency distribution, simple correlation coefficient, and multiple correlation and regression analysis.
The results' revealed the following:
1- The respondent's Knowledge and implementation level, about practices of dairy cattle's breeding and Management in El-Monofia Governorate were about average.
2- A positive correlation existed between the independent variables and the respondent's Knowledge and implementation level, about practices of dairy cattle's breeding. and Management in El-Monofia Governorate.
3- The following independent variables significantly contributed in explaining the variation in the respondent's knowledge and implementation level, about practices of dairy cattle's breeding and Management in EI-Monofia Governorate. These are: The amount of milk produced from one animal per day, The degree of satisfactions of cattle's milk economic return, the degree of satisfaction of cattle's milk production, and size of farm land.
4- The main sources of respondent's information about practices of dairy cattle's breeding and Management in El-Monofia Governorate were Veterinary unit (b8.44%), veterinary pharmacy (58.67%), and the palpate (51.56%).
5- There were five problems facing the great majority of the respondents. These are in descending order: canceling system of providing concentrated fodder with supported price, high prices of verterinary, drugs, high prices of fodder, the shortage of concentrated fodder in summer season, and low pureness of concentrated fodder.
