English : Response of two peanut varieties to intercropping with sunflower under different sunflower sowing dates
Arabic : استجابة صنفان من الفول السوداني للتحميل مع عباد الشمس تحت مواعيد زراعة مختلفة لعباد الشمس
Abstract Two field trials were carried out through 2003 and 2004 seasons at Assuit to study different intercropping systems and sowing dates with sunflower on yield and quality of peanut ( Giza/5 and Giza/6). The results could be summarized as follow : Peanut : Giza/6 showed superiority in most vegetative and yield characters compared to Giza/5. Sowing date of sunflower on June 20th gave the highest peanut yield and early flowing. Intercropping system of 100% peanut + 25% sunflower gave the highest values for yield and yield components Interaction effect of peanut varieties with sowing dates and intercropping systems was significant for most yield components. Sunflower : Sunflower intercropped with Giza 6 recorded higher values for head diameter, seed yield per plant and feddan, compared with Giza/5 . Sowing data on May 20th recorded the highest values for all the studied traits compared with other dates. Intercropping system of 100% peanut + 25% sunflower recorded the highest values for most growth characters. However, the intercropping system of 100% peanut + 100% sunflower recorded highest value of seed yield per feddan. The interaction between peanut and sowing dates significantly affected on seed yield per plant and feddan. Interaction effect of sunflower sowing dates and intercropping systems showed early sunflower sowing increased seed yield per plant and per feddan for all intercropping systems. Data on competitive relationships indicated that intercropping sunflower with peanut at the intercropping system of 100% peanut + 100% sunflower produced higher land equivalent ratio (L.E.R = 1.67).The relative crowding coefficient (K) of peanut and sunflower was higher than one. Sunflower was the dominant component for the all intercropping systems, while, peanut was the dominated crop income. Net income of intercropping systems indicated that 100% peanut + 100% sunflower gave the highest net income ( 325.75 L.E.), compared to peanut as sole crop .
