Abstract |
An experiment was conducted to evaluate performance of broiler chicks fed diets containing plant (soybean meal (SBM), corn gluten meal (CGM), sunflower meal (SFM) and animal (fish meal (FM) and meat and bone meat (MBM) protein sources based on total (TP and TAA) and digestible (DP and DAA) protein and amino acids (methionine and lysine). Protein sources were substituted for 6% of protein diets. Three hundred unsexed day-old Arbor Acers broilers chicks were divided equality into 10 treatments of 30chicks each in three replicates (10 chicks each). Diets were formulated to contain 21% CP and 3000 Kcal ME/Kg (starter ) and 18.5% Cp and 3200 ME/Kg (finisher ). Body weight, feed conversion, carcass characteristics and some blood constituents were measured.
The obtained results revealed a significant (P<0.01) improvement in feed conversation ratio (FC) and economical efficiency (EE) when chicks were fed diets formulated based on DP and DAA compared to those fed diets based on TP and TAA. However, no significant differences in growth performance for broiler chicks fed plant protein diets and those fed animal protein diets. Furthermore, plant protein sources were more economical. Carcass characteristics and blood plasma protein fractions were not affected by dietary treatments. However, chicks fed diets formulated based on DP and DAA had significantly (P<0.01) lower percentage of abdominal fat than those fed on TP and TAA.
In conclusion, diets formulated based on DP and DAA improved FC and EE Also, performance of chicks fed diets containing plant protein sources was equal to those fed diets containing animal protein sources. However, plant protein sources were more economical.
