Abstract |
The present study was conducted to evaluate the response of broiler chicks fed diets based on total (TAA) or digestible (DAA) amino acids (Lysine and Methionine), as well as two levels of dietary protein and energy. A total number of 240 unsexed one- day Arbor Acers broiler chicks were distributed into 8 treatments of 30 chicks each in three replicates (10 chicks each ). Diets were formulated on TAA or DAA basis and either standard or low CP (23 or 20% at starter and 20 or 17% at grower period, respectively), and two levels of energy (standard energy,3200Kcal/Kg or low energy 3000 Kcal/Kg at starter and grower periods, respectively).
A significant (P> 0.01) improvement in feed conversion (FC) was observed when chicks fed diets based on DAA compared with those fed diets based on TAA. Performance of chicks fed the high protein diets (23/20%CP) was equal with those fed a low CP diets (20/17% CP) supplemented with Met and Lys to the amounts recommended by NRC, 1994. Significant improvement in body weight gain (P> 0.01) and feed conversion (P> 0.01) were observed by increasing dietary energy level during starter period. However, dietary energy level did not affect significantly (P> 0.05) growth performance during the grower period. No significant effect was observed on carcass characteristics. However, chicks fed 20/17% CP diets supplemented with Lys and Met had significantly (P> 0.01) higher percentage of abdominal fat than those fed on 23/20% Cp diet. Diets based on DAA with 20 or 23 % CP and low energy level recorded the maximum economic efficiency (EE). In conclusion, diets based on DAA improved Fc and EE. Also using low-Cp diets supplemented with Lys and Met gave equal performance to that of high protein diet.
