Abstract |
This study was carried out at the International Livestock Management Training Center (I.L.M.T.C), Sakha, Animal Production Research Institute, Agriculturel Research Center, Ministry of Agriculture during the period from October 2000 to May 2003. A total of 20 Balady animals (10 cows and 10 heifers) and 10 Friesian heifers were used as donor animals. The study included 4 experiments using different superovulatory regimen to determine the optimal dose of PMSG. Also supplemination of GnRH and rBST were used to study its effect on superovulatory response. A total of 5 Balady heifers and 4 Friesian heifers were used as recipient animals. Transferring 5 Friesian embryos into 5 Balady heifers resulted in 2 calf born (one male 42 kg body weight and one female 38 kg body weight), also transferring 4 Balady embryos into 4 Friesian heifers resulted in one pregnancy on 60 days.
Experiment 1: Ovarian response and embryo recovery from Balady cows superovulated with different doses of PMSG.
Nine Balady cows were used in this experiment divided into three groups. Each group (3 cows) was treated with 2000, 2500 and unfertilized ova and degenerated embryos.
Experiment 2: Ovarian response and embryo recovery from Balady cows superovulated with the optimal dose of Exp.1 (2500 i.u. PMSG) in combination with the injection of GnRH (20 ug)
Six cows were used in this experiment, divided into two groups; each group was 3 cows treated with 2500 i.u. PMSG and 2500 i.u. PMSG + 20 ug GnRH for group 1 and 2, respectively.
Experiment 3: Ovarian response and embryo recovery from Balady heifers superovulated with different doses of PMSG.
- Nine Balady heifers were used in this experiment divided into three groups. Each group of 3 heifers was treated with 1000, 1500, and 2000 i.u. PMSG, respectively.
Experiment 4: Ovarian response and embryo recovery from Balady heifers superovulated with the optimal doses of PMSG (2000 i.u.) from Exp. 3 in combination with rBST treatment (500 mg)
In this experiment, two groups of heifers were used in this study. The first group of three heifers was given 2000 i.u. PMSG, while the second group of five heifers was given 2000 i.u. PMSG + 500 mg rBST.
Pilot test of embryo transfer:
1- Transferring 5 Friesian embryos into 5 recipient Balady heifers resulted in 2 born calves ( one male 42 Kg birth weight and one female 38 Kg birth weight),
2- Transferring 4 Balady embryo into 4 Friesian heifers resulted in one pregnancy, confermed by rectal palpation (2 months).
Final Conclusion
1- The 2500 i.u PMSG could be recommended as an optimal dose for superovulating Balady cows.
2- Using GnRH does not have positive effect on superovulation.
3-The 2000 i.u PMSG dose could be recommended as an optimal dose for superovulating Balady heifers.
4-Using rBST in combination with the optimal dose of PMSG (2000 i.u) dose not improve the superovulatory response in Balady heifers.
5-The MOET technique could be used as a mean for improving Balady Cattle.
6-The Balady cattle could be used as recipients for super embryos from super cows to give a valuable calf instead of an ordinary one. Also Friesian cows could be used as recipient for Balady embryos.
