English : Producing safety poultry product using natural extracts

Abstract This study was carried out at Poultry Breeding Farm, Poultry Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the impact of sea algae extract (Blue Green Algae + Deatomes) on the productive performance and immunocompetence measurements of two broiler strains under summer season conditions of Egypt. Four hundred one day old broiler chicks (200 Cobb and 200 Hubbard) were used. They were distributed into two groups within each strain. The first group was provided drinking water without any supplementations, and the second group was offered a drinking water with 1 ml sea algae extract/liter. This treatment was repeated 4 times (each 10 days). All chicks were reared under similar environmental, managerial and hygienic conditions. The average high and low ambient temperatures recorded during the experimental period were 33 and 29oC, respectively. Main results could be summarized as follows: · There was no significant difference between treated groups for body weight and body weight gain. However, the Cobb broiler chicks were significantly heavier body weight compared to Hubbard ones. · With respect to Cautenous Basophilic Hypersensitivity (CBH), the sea algae extract supplementation significantly increased cell-mediated immunity compared to control group. · The sea algae extract had a decreased feed consumption in broiler chicks; also the feed conversion ratio of broiler chicks was decreased by sea algae extract supplementation. · The plasma globulin of treated broiler chicks was significantly higher than that of control group. · The effect of sea algae extract supplementation on cell-mediated immunity was more pronounced in Cobb broiler chicks rather than Hubbard ones. · The sea algae extract supplementation had increased dressing, edible meat parts, and breast muscles percentages and decreased abdominal fat percentage. · The total antibody and immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels were higher in treated group compared to control group. In conclusion, the sea algae extract supplementation had a better effect on cell-mediated immunity, antibody response and carcass traits of broiler chicks. However, it could be recommended that the use of sea algae extract in broiler production needs further investigations.
