A study of some variables that affect rural wives' participation in agricultural work

| Abstract |
This study aims at the assessment of rural wives' participation in agricultural work through studying thirteen independent variables and wives' participation as a dependent variable. Besides, the research seeks to identify what kind of extension training programs are necessary for rural woman. Data were collected from a sample of 142 wives, which
represents 10 % of the total farmers' wives members of two agricultural cooperatives at Al Maamoura region, Alexandria Governorate.
The main findings of the study highlighted that 70.4% of rural wives have a moderate or high participation in family agriculture work. Also, wife's public participation, her leadership status, her level of education, family size and husband age Have significant relationships with wives' participation in agricultural work. These five independent variables are responsible for explaining 21.54 % of the total variance in rural wives' participation in agricultural work This study elaborates participation of the majority of rural wives in animal husbandry .This requires an accurate planning and implementation of extension and training programs in this field to update their knowledge and skills.
