Abstract |
A set of laboratory experiment was carried out to select a resistant isolate against fungicides (Premis and Sumi-8) from strains of Azorhizobium caulinodans (IRBG-314 and ORS-571) and Azospirillum brasilense (SP-245) as nitrogen fixing associative bacteria for wheat plants in the presence of these fungicides. Pot and field experiments were also conducted under sandy soil conditions during two successive winter growing seasons of 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 to evaluate the effect of Premis and Sumi-8 fungicides on growth, yield and some yield components of wheat plants inoculated with either parental Azorhizobium and Azospirillum strains or those fungicide-resistant strains.
Results of laboratory experiment displayed that the used Azorhizobium strains (IRBG-314 and ORS-571) and Azospirillum SP-245 in the presence of Premis fungicide recorded MIC values of 1775, 2025 and 1525 g mL-1, respectively. Sumi-8 fungicide showed more effect on strains and recorded the lowest MIC values (1525, 1025 and 1025 g mL-1 for Azorhizobium IRBG-314, Azorhizobium ORS-571 and Azospirillum SP-245, respectively).
Results of pot experiment showed that fungicides untreated plants and inoculated with parental strains of Azorhizobium (IRBG-314 and ORS-571) and Azospirillum (SP-245) exhibited significant increases in wheat yield and its yield components as compared with the uninoculated plants or those inoculated with the same strains resistant to Premis and Sumi-8. However, plants treated with Premis and Sumi-8 and inoculated with Azorhizobium strains (IRBG-314 and ORS-571) and Azospirillum strain (SP-245) resistant to Premis and Sumi-8 recorded significant increases in all wheat growth and yield characters compared to those inoculated with the same parental strains.
In field experiment, data confirmed again the superiority of inoculation with Azorhizobium IRBG-314 and Azospirillum SP-245 (parental strains) in acheiving higher values of all wheat growth and yield characters. On the contrary, wheat treated with Premis and Sumi-8 fungicides and inoculated with strains IRBG-314 and SP-245 resistant to Premis or Sumi-8 displayed significant increases in wheat yield and its yield components compared to plants inoculated with the same parental strains
