English : An analytical study for the extension activities applied by female extension workers in some A.R.E. governorates

Abstract In the context to describe Female Extension Workers' (FEW) role on the village level by deducting the activities they actually apply, this study aimed at : identifying the activities FEW apply in their working areas concerning specialized extension fields, domestic family fields and social fields. The study aimed also to identify the relationship between each of : the difference in working areas, training attended by FEW, age and time period spent in extension work; and each of FEWs' degree of applying the activities in specialized extension fields, domestic family fields and social fields. Also, it aimed at determining the barriers FEW encounter when applying the mentioned activities as well as their suggestions to overcome these problems. A sample of 120 FEW was drown randomly representing 50% of FEW's population in Behera, Gharbia, Alexandria, Giza and Fayoum Governorates. Data were collected by interviewing respondents using a pre-tested questionnaire. Tabulation, percentages, averages, simple correlation, coefficient of Alienation and Chi squire were used in presentation and statistical analysis. The main results of the study revealed that poultry breeding was the most specialized extension activity FEW apply as it rates to 26.65%. Sewing was the most applied activity in the domestic field in a rate of 30.83%, while applying family planing awareness activities in the social field rating to 40.85%. The highest average degree of FEWs' contribution in the studies extension activities ( 1.23 degree) was in contributing in social activities followed by (1.18 degree) for contributing in domestic family activities, and (1,17 degree) regarding specialized extension activities. The results revealed also that there is a significant relationship between the difference in working areas and applying the studied fields. Also, there were a significant relationship between each of applying domestic family and social field activities on one hand; and training attended by FEWs ion the other hand. The highest barriers affecting developing rural women, suggested by interviewees, was: illiteracy, low hygiene level and low knowledge level concerning motherhood and childhood. FEWs suggested to develop various programs to elevate literacy and hygiene awareness. They also suggested to assign FEW to field activities on the village level by the concerned extension institutions to develop rural women and their performance.
