Factors associated with job satisfaction among extension agents in Gharbia and kafr El–Sheikh governorates

Abstract |
This study aims to identify the bivariate relationships between background, father's occupation, age. educational level, major, in¬ service training, governorate, income, level of living, urban cont¬act, and media exposure and the dependent variable job satisfaction of extension agents.
Data were collected by personal interview from a sample of exte¬nsion agents working in Motor district, Gharbia governorate and Metoubis district, Kafr El-Sheikh governorate. The interview sche¬dule contained measures of the independent variables as well as a job satisfaction scale compased of 66 items grouped under 14 dimensions. After data collection, independent variables were dichoto¬mized and job satisfaction scores were computed according to the prespacified dimensions. T-test for comparing two means was used to teat the study hypotheses
The result of the study are :
1 - There are no significant differences in job satisfaction betw¬een extension agents with rural background and those with urban background in job satisfaction.
2 - There are no significant differnces between extension agents whose fathers are farmers and those whose fathers work in other occupations in job satisfaction.
3 - There are no significant differences in job satifaction between extension workers below 35 years and those above 35 years. Yet, three dissensions were exceptions where differe¬nces were significant at the .05 level, These dimensions are supervision, community appraise and work enjoyment.
4 - There are significant differences at the .05 level in supe¬rvision, working with farmers, material work conditions, and agricultural education as well as overall job satisfaction when respondents were grouped according to educational level.
5 - There are no significant differences at the .05 lave in job satisfaction when extension agents with B.Sc. groaned according to major, The only exception is material work conditions where a significant difference in noted.
6 - There are no significant differences in Job satisfaction when respondents are grouped according to the level of in-service tra¬ining, Yet, achievement and work enjoyment are exceptions where significant differences are noted .
7 - There are significant differences between respondents working in Gharbia and those working in Kafr El-Sheikh regarding supe¬rvision, cooperation with colleagues, achievement, agricultural research systems, statue community appraisal , work enjoyment and wage as well as the overall job satisfaction. In all oases but wage differences are in favor of Gharbia .
8 - There are significant differences between respondents with low income and those with high income regarding supervision, achie¬vement, statue, community appraisal, and work enjoyment as well as overall job satisfaction.
9 - There are significant differences between respondents with low level of living and those with high level of living re¬garding supervision, agricultural research systems, status, community appraisal and work enjoyment as well as the over, all job satisfaction
10- There are significant differences regarding 000peration with colleagues, work with farmers and material work conditions as well as the overall job satisfaction when respondents were grouped according to urban contact.
II - Extension agents with high media exposure have higher satifaction scores on cooperation with colleagues but have lower scores on wage and agricultural education compared to those with low media exposure .
