English : A comparative study of the attitudes of farmers towards rationalization systems of irrigation water use in some traditional and reclamation zones
Arabic : دراسة مقارنة لاتجاهات الزراع نحو اساليب ترشيد مياة الرى فى بعض المناطق التقليدية والأخرى المستصلحة
Abstract This study aims to : determine the difference between the attitudes of farmers in both traditional and reclamation zones toward rationalization systems of water use, compare between two groups of farmers in relation to the application level of rationalization systems, the important variable, affecting their attitudes, farmers application constraints for rationalization systems, and their proposales to solve them. Data were collected by personal interview from two random samples, 100 farmers from traditional zones and 80 farmers from reclamation zones in Behaira and Fayoum governorates . "Z" test, simple correlation coefficient, and step - wise multiple correlation and regression analysis were used for data analysis . The results of the study revealed that there was significant difference at .01 level between the attitudes of farmers in each of traditional and reclamation zones (57 Percent against II Percent) . The application of farmers for rationalization systems in reclama¬tion zones with higher percentage than those in traditional zones in all systems under study. There were significant relationship between the attitudes of farmers in traditional zones and II independent variables, the most important of them were t frequency of urban zones visits, aspirati¬on level, application of innovation techniques, and exposure to information sources. These above 4 independent variables explained together about 91 percent of change in the attitudes of farmers. There were significant relationship between the attitudes of farmers in reclamation zones and 12 independent variables, the most important of them were: application of innovation techniques, exposure to information sources, frequency of urban zone visits, and informal social participation. These above 4 independent variables explained together about 92 percent of change in the attitudes of farmers in reclamation zones. The most important constraints for the two groups of farmers in applying rationalization systems were: law rate of their awarners about the importance of these systems, their believing that its explicating is one of the government's responsibilities, the lack of farmers experience that enables them to apply them by themselves. The most important suggestions of farmers were: the necessity of awraring them about these rationalization systems and the harmful effects of not applying them, the government also has to apply these systems in farmers fields who pay its prices on instalment, and farmers must be trained to apply these systems by themselves in their fields. The results of this study demand from those who are responsible of the policy of rationalization systems of irrigation water use, to plan and execute effective extension programs, to create farmers awarnes about the importance of applying these systems and train them to apply it by themselves in their fields and offer them loans which they need. Also concentrate on training the farmers who had already applied the innovations in their fields, who always visit the urban zones, and expose themselves to the information sources, and those who have high level of aspiration, and participate in the informal social, activities more than the other farmers which guara¬ntee the success of the rationalization systems of irrigation water use policy.
