Abstract To study the effect of hill spacing and fertigation using drip irrigation in sandy calcareous soil on the productivity of some safflower (Carthamus tinctorus, L.) genotypes, four experiments were carried out in split plot design with four replications at El-Wadi El-Assiuty farm in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons. The obtained results showed high doses of macronutrients increased significantly all studied traits except water consumptive use. Otherwise, oil percent was significantly decreased with those high doses. Wide spacing ( 30 cm) surpassed narrow on (20cm) between hills in all studied traits except plant height, seed and oil yield/fed and water use efficiency which react to narrow one . Line3 surpassed all genotypes in all studied traits except oil percent. The maximum seed and oil yield/fed. And water use efficiency were obtained from sowing line 3 at 20cm within hills subjected to high doses of macronutrients
