Abstract |
The present study was carried out during the two successive summer growing seasons of 2003 and 2004 in the New Valley Agricultural Research Station to study the response of two sunflower hybrids (Hybrid 102 and Hybrid 20) to NPK fertilizers splitting numbers (6, 12 and 18 times) and plant densities (28000 and 42000 plant/fed.) in sandy soil under drip irrigation system. The results indicated that there were significant differences between the number of NPK fertilizers splitting in all studied traits in both seasons of the study.
Application of NPK fertilizers at 18 time gave the highest values of all studied traits except oil% which reacted to the lowest application number (6 times). In addition the results showed that sunflower hybrids exerted a highly significant influence on all traits in the two growing seasons. Where hybrid 102 surpassed hybrid 20 in all studied traits except oil% . Increasing plant density increased plant height, seed and oil yield/fed. Significantly in both seasons .
Otherwise, the stem diameter, head diameter, 100-seed weight and seed yield /plant decreased with increasing plant density.
The second order interaction of splitting numbers x hybrids x plant densities showed a significant influence on all studied traits in the two growing seasons. Data showed that the highest values of plant height, seed and oil yield/fed. Were obtained by sowing hybrid 102 with high density when subjected to higher number of NPK fertilizers splitting ( 18 times), while the highest values of stem and head diameters, 100-seed weight and seed yield/plant were obtained by sowing hybrid 102 with low plant density when subjected to the higher number of NPK fertilizers splittings (18 time) .
Otherwise, the highest values of oil% was obtained by sowing hybrid 20 with low plant density when subjected to the lower number pf NPK fertilizers splittings (6 times).
Key words: sunflower hybrids, NPK, plant densities, reclaimed soils
