Abstract |
Seeds of thirty lines of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) were used in order to evaluate their merits for using in the breeding programs. All lines were tested in the before planting for standard and cold germination percentage, seedling growth characters, biochemical and chemical characters, then planted in the field at Ismailia Agricultural Research Station, Ismailia Governorate in a randomized complete blocks design with four replications during200land 2002 seasons.
Weight of pods and seeds per plant, shelling percentage per plant, number of pods and seed per plant and weight of 100-pod and 100-seed were determined. Peanut lines varied significantly in laboratory and field characters. N.A.190 recorded the highest values for eight characters, namely standard and cold germination percentage, plumule length, seedling dry weight, weight of pods per plant, number of pods per plant, 100-seed weight and electrical conductivity in both seasons. N.A.150. N.A.184. N.A.172 and n.A.98 gave the highest values for weight of seeds per plant. Shelling percentage, number of seeds per plant, 100-pod weight and radical length in both seasons, respectively. N.A.178 and N.A.205 recorded the highest values for seed oil percentage and seed percentage in both seasons. Respectively. However, the study revealed that certain distinguished lines such as N.A.190, N.A.263 and N.A.411 gave relatively positive results under the condition of most investigated tests. Thus, they may be useful for plant breeder.
