Abstract The present work was to clear the hazard effects my evoked by fish farms using testosterone hormone for fish monosex production to fish in fresh water areas surrounding these farms. Testosterone levels were estimated in a group of Oreochromis niloticus fish that obtained from freshwater areas surrounding private fish farms which used sex hormone for monosex production. Experimentally, such hormone levels were estimated in another group of apparently healthy O. niloticus fed on a ration containing testosterone hormone for two months. The residual values of the hormone in serum and muscles of natural and experimental groups showed significant increase (to variable extent) in comparison to natural control group. The clinical and haematological effects of testosterone hormone on natural group were studied and confirmed by the experimental group. To variable extent natural and experimental groups showed significant increase in RBCs, Hb content, PCV% while total WBCs showed insignificant change. There were drastic effects on liver and kidney functions manifested by marked elevation in serum level of total proteins, cholesterol, serum AST, ALT, ALP, urea, creatinine, Ca+2, Na+ and K+. Histopathological studies revealed mainly congestion, odema and haemorrhage in both tissues and internal organs.
