English : Preliminary studies for predicting Pulvinaria tenuivalvata Newstead Homoptera:Coccidae on sugar cane.
Arabic : دراسات تمهيدية للتنبؤ بالحشرة الرخوة Pulvinaria على قصب السكر( tenuivalvata Newsted)
Abstract The present study was carried out under insectary conditions for two successive years to determine Pulvinaria tenuivalvata (Newstead) generations. Obtained results revealed that this insect had six and seven generations in the two successive years, respectively. The thermal units, (DDU's) of each generation were basically estimated on zero (8°C) and maximum (28°C) for development. Results indicated 970.St16.5 DDU's per generation. These results were compared with field data over two seasons. Field data indicated three generations per active season with 1104 ±11.7 DDU's per generation. No significant differences were obtained between these results and those previously published, as 1010.93 DDU's per generation under controlled conditions. The obtained information may help in developing a prediction model for P. tenuivalvata population.
