Some productive and physiolgical responses for using dietary zinc oxide on laying hens

| Abstract |
A total of 20 While Bovans hens aged 56 weeks were used to determine the influence of zinc oxide supplemented to laying diet on their productive performance and some physiological trails. At 60 weeks of age, birds were divided randomly to 4 eqtlal groupS alloted to the level of zinc oxide (0.0, 5000,and 1000 and 20000 ppm) added to the basal diet for the first eight days of the after wards, then zinc oxide experiment was removed and the layers continue to fed the basal diet only the period for 1 2 weeks.
Results indicated that adding 5000, 10000 and 20000 ppm zinc oxide to layer diets for 8 days the body weight, feed consumption. egg number, rate of egg production . and egg shell thickness were decreased (P<0. 05). After removing zinc oxide from diet, all these traits were improved &Yfadually to reach normal level after 12 weeks from treatment. Zinc oxide improved only egg shell quality and decreased egg shell less percent.
Both serum cholesterol, total lipids, T3 hormone and calcium were decreased significantly with zinc oxideat only level, while zinc on'yolk and serum were increased sig-r1ificantly. Moreover, a depression was observed in fat-pad, liver and kidney weights with zinc oxide, such decrease was level dependent.
